Arrival and overnight stay
It is worth planning your journey and your overnight stay well in advance because the city of Omaha is packed at the weekend around the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2020. You can find good accommodation at a fair price on Airbnb, but be sure to get a good rating (over 4.5 stars) and read guests’ comments. We had problems here and had to rebook – which unfortunately is very expensive. There are also numerous hotels and motels in Omaha, some of which have only recently opened. One of the neighbouring cities Council Bluffs, which is located in Iowa, can probably also find cheap hotels.
If you bring some time and don’t have to return on Sunday, you’ll also find affordable flights to and from Omaha. We compensate the CO² emissions of the flights by a donation, e.g. to Atmosfair. Alternatively you can travel by car, train or bus from Denver or Chigago. On the spot we got along well without a car, because you have a good offer by ride sharing platforms, like Uber and Lyft. Even on the morning of the Berkshire Hathaway Annual General Meeting 2020 we got a car relatively fast.
Of course you can also book a car that costs about $30 a day. To make parking easy, you can use the ParkOmaha (iOs | Android) app. Near the city centre, there is also free parking at the bridge at the Durham Museum.
It is well worth bringing a little more time for Omaha to get to know the city without the hustle and bustle of Berkshire. We are usually on site for a week and arrive on Tuesday and depart on Monday/Tuesday. If you feel like meeting us, feel free to write to us.
From about Thursday, various events around the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting 2020 will start. For example the Value Investor Conference takes place, Willow Oak Asset Management hosts an event for young asset managers or Gabelli invites to a conference. On the Sunday after the Annual General Meeting there will also be a Markel meeting or you can take part in the Berkshire Hathaway 5 km race. In addition to these events, there are a number of events and discounts for shareholders at Borsheims or the Nebraska Furniture Mart.
For 2020 Willow Oak Asset Management has compiled a very helpful list of events. You can find it here.
You can pick up your badges on site if you can show your ID and proof that you are a shareholder. Details can be found on the official Berkshire Hathaway website. You can also order the badge on eBay and have it sent to your accommodation. The official account for this is brka_b.
There are many legends entwining around the morning of the Berkshire Hathaway Annual General Meeting 2020. We recorded how we slept relatively well in 2019 and quickly came into the hall:
But if you want to get to the hall early and get the best places, we recommend the guide of Remo.
How do you ask a question?
You have two options to ask a question during the AGM. In advance you can send a question to one of these three journalists:
- Carol Loomis (Fortune): firstname.lastname@example.org
- Becky Quick (CNBC): BerkshireQuestions@cnbc.com
- Andrew Ross Sorkin (New York Times): email@example.com
Or you put your question in the question lottery on the morning of the Annual General Meeting and it will be drawn with luck.
